BJP-CPM clash in Koyilandy, security beefed up


Koyilandi: Three persons were injured in the BJP- CPM clash that occurred in Koyilandy on Saturday and police intensified security after the incident. Though the police conducted search for weapons nothing was recovered. In the clash that occurred on Saturday night, CPM activist Sabhaneeth, 27, and BJP district vice-president TK Padmanabhan and wife Sobha were attacked with a sword. Sabhaneeth has been admitted to the Medical College hospital and Padnamnabhan and wife are at MIMS hospital.


A group in bikes with face masked attacked Sabhaneeth, who is an employee at a bakery in Kozhikode new bus stand, by 8.30 pm. His hand, which was cut off, was joined at the Medical College after a 5 hour-long surgery. As counter attack someone attacked Padmanabhan and his wife. The group smashed windowpanes of his house and destroyed chairs in the office room. Later police admitted the couple to a hospital and BJP staged a hartal in Koyilandy. No one has been arrested yet.
