Tuesday, August 30, 2011: The police on Monday took into custody DIG EJ Jayaraj, of the Legal Metrology Department, allegedly for misbehaving with a woman passenger on the Kozhikode-Thiruvananthapuram Jan Shatabdi Express in Kochi.

He also reportedly clashed with other passengers in the train. SI G Vinod, in-charge of the state police at the South Railway Station said that the DIG was taken into custody after he misbehaved with a woman who had placed her laptop on the seat. Jayaraj also tried to throw the laptop out of the train. When other passengers intervened, he entered into an altercation with them.
When the train reached Ernakulam South railway station, the passengers demanded that the state police, present at the station, arrest him. After the police failed to meet the demand, the passengers pulled the emergency chain delaying the departure of the train.
The police then took him to custody and subjected him to medical examination. A case has been registered against him in this regard.
