Medical college to come up at Haripad: Minister

Saturday, August 27, 2011: A new medical college, for which fund mobilisation will be done on the Cochin International Airport model, will be established at Haripad here, Health Minister Adoor Prakash has said.
Inaugurating Medi-Fest, a two-day medical camp organized for the 11 panchayats in the Haripad Assembly constituency on Saturday, Prakash said that 50 acres of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) would be acquired for the purpose.

The medical college, for which Haripad legislator Ramesh Chennithala’s request had been approved by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, would come up through a partnership between the State government, NTPC and NRIs, the Minister said, adding that other interested investors would be welcome as well.
The Haripad Medical College will be one among at least four medical colleges that the government proposed to set up in different districts shortly. Meanwhile, the State government had taken cognizance of recent revelations on how drug companies were fleecing the public.
