Friday, August 5, 2011: The Government has ordered an investigation into the accident at the construction site of a multi storied building for the Central Bus Terminal at Thampanoor on Thursday night in which a worker was injured.
Rafi, 45, of Kollam was injured when the newly- laid concrete roof of the building collapsed after the metal supports gave way under the weight of the freshly- poured concrete. Rescue workers extricated him from a pile of concrete, rubble and mangled steel. Rafi has been admitted to the Medical College hospital with injuries.
Police and personnel of the Fire and Rescue Services who sifted through the debris right into the morning, confirmed that no one else was trapped inside.
The bus terminal- cum- office and commercial complex is being constructed as a joint venture involving the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation and the Kerala Transport Development Finance Corporation. The Rs. 56 crore project is scheduled to be completed next year.
