THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Cyber Crime Police arrested a 35-year-old man on charges of uploading morphed images of female anchors of a leading Malayalam television channel on the internet.
The accused was identified as Devadas of Ambikasadanam, Poothol, Thrissur. He was arrested following a complaint forwarded by the channel authorities to Director-General Police Jacob Punnoose, who handed over the case to the Cyber Crime Police.
According to Cyber Crime Police, the accused, who was an diehard fan of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, committed the crime due to the grudge he bore against the channel authorities for portraying the actress in a vulgar manner in one of their programmes.
He had even forwarded a complaint to the channel authorities. Devadas, who is a bachelor, was provoked at their indifferent response and as an act of revenge he uploaded morphed photographs of the channel’s female anchors on the internet.
The team of Cyber Crime Police led by Inspector Joshi Mathew and Sub- Inspector Suji Kumar successfully traced Devadas, despite him having used a fake e-mail ID to upload the pictures. Even though the police could not find any other offensive material from his computer, the court remanded him to judicial custody as the crime committed was a non-bailable offence.
