Monorail suggested for TVM

Wednesday, August 03, 2011: With a view to address the growing transport problem in the state capital, the Kerala cabinet today entrusted National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC) with the task of conducting a feasibility study to introduce a 28-km monorail project for the city.
The proposal is to have a monorail system between Kazhakoottam, the IT hub of the state and Balaramapuram in the outskirts of the state capital. The Centre has been asked to prepare a feasibility study and submit it to the government as soon as possible, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told reporters after a cabinet meeting.
Monorail is a rail-based transportation system based on a single rail, which acts as its sole support and guide way. The rail would be erected on a track on medians that divide the main roads, according to experts.
