Ramesh Chennithala Slams former Supreme Court judge

Wednesday, August 03, 2011: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala took strong objection to former Supreme Court judge K T Thomas praising the RSS. “It is unfortunate that a person of Justice Thomas’s stature has heaped praises on an organisation which negated the secular concept of India,” Chennithala said in a statement here.

It was regrettable that Thomas had sought to “distort history” while seeking to “whitewash” an organisation like RSS which propagated the ‘Hindu rashtra’ concept by negating the secular ideals of the country, the Congress leader said. Chennithala also took exception to Thomas’s statement that the charge against RSS of being responsible for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi was a “smear campaign.
While speaking at an RSS function yesterday in Kochi, Justice Thomas said the propaganda that the organisation was anti-minority was “baseless” and termed as a “smear campaign” the allegation that it was responsible for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. There is a smear campaign that RSS was responsible for Gandhi’s assassination just because the assassin was once an RSS worker, he had said, adding that the organisation had been “completely exonerated” by the court.
