Rajesh slams media for ‘misreporting’ his speech

KANNUR: A special district convention of the DYFI held here on Tuesday ended up with a section of the visual media allegedly misreporting the speech of its state president MB Rajesh MP and the MP holding a news conference immediately after the convention to launch a verbal tirade against the media.
Addressing the news conference, Rajesh said that the way his speech was reported by a section of TV channels showed the “decayed state of the media”. Describing the practice as “media goondaism”, the DYFI leader said that his speech was reported without any regard to basic dignity, truth or culture.

“As many as 300 delegates were witnesses to the speech and none of them will see any truth in what was reported by the channels,” he asserted. While inaugurating the convention, M B Rajesh had said  that controversial comments about P K Kunhalikutty and R Balakrishna Pillai were always grabbing much media attention and that serious issues concerning the youths too had to be discussed in detail. What provoked the DYFI leader and his colleagues was the interpretation given to this comment as a salvo aimed at Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan. The entire array of the DYFI leadership including T V Rajesh MLA and A N Shamzir were visibly annoyed as the comment continued to be a topic of discussion in the media even before the conclusion of the convention.Meanwhile, lambasting the government move to increase the retirement age of government employees and teachers, the DYFI leaders announced that the federation would launch an intensive stir against the decision, mobilising the support of all youths organisations.
