where should we go for food ?

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  “We are hungry even with plenty of money in the wallet. But where should we go for food ?,” asked M S Shajahan from Kattakada, whose wife has been admitted to the Government Hospital, Thycaud. He was frantically in search of a hotel to buy food. The apprehensions of the worried husband vanished into thin air when Prem Kumar invited him to have a dine at his makeshift kitchen near the hospital office. The man has been distributing food to the patients for years.

When asked about the motive behind the food distribution, he smiled and continued serving rice to the people. ‘’He is like this. Never craves for publicity,’’ said an employee of the hospital who has been depending on the food prepared by Prem Kumar for many years.

On Saturday, Prem had more than 800 patients waiting for him at the hospital complex. And on Monday, the number rose to above 1,000. Around a quintal of rice and five types of  potpourry, including sambar, were served to the hungry. An old man approached Prem and offered him a sum as contribution. “No,I will do this alone as long as I can. After that... god knows,” he rejected the contribution with a sigh.
