Kerala: Schoolgirl 'stripped,' case against teachers

Police have registered a case against two teachers of the Kerala English Medium School at Karimbil near here for alleged stripping of a girl while searching for stolen money.

The uncle of the girl filed the case against the headmistress and the class teacher on Saturday.

As per the FIR, the petitioner alleged that the teachers stripped the girl on Friday afternoon to search for money and kept her in custody even after the class hours. The teachers allegedly beat the kid as well.

The incident happened after another student in the IVth standard complained about losing `70.

However, the investigation by the Childline officials have found that the complaint was fabricated.

While interacting with other students in the class, the officials expressed doubts over the authenticity of the complaint.

“Some students said that a few of their classmates were prompted to say that the headmistress stripped them while searching for money. We will continue our investigation to find out whether any kind of child abuse occurred,” a Childline official said.

Teachers also denied the charges levelled against them. The headmistress of the school said that she only asked the students whether anyone of them had taken the money or not.

However, she admited that the teachers had checked the pockets of the boys.

“I have not even questioned the girl who gave complaint against me. It is our duty to find out how the money disappeared.”

“There has been no instance of any kind of mental or physical torture on students,” the headmistress added.
