Malayalam to be observed as state’s official language
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It has been decided to observe Malayalam as the official language in all departments for a year starting from November 1, in Kerala, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said. Chandy said different departments would use Malayalam as the official language and steps would be taken to evaluate the same before implementing it. Necessary amendments would be brought in the law to give authority for Panchayaths/Municipalities to sanction license for bars other than four star and five star hotels. Bill will be presented in the Assembly. Sanction for bar license for Four and Five Star Hotels would be given by tourism department. The Cabinet has approved the excess tender amount for the heavy maintenance work of Mannarakurinji-Pampa road and Kanamala- Ilavunkal road. The excess tender amount is 15 per cent and 14 per cent of the total expense amounting to Rs 43 cores 70 lakh respectively for the two roads. It has been decided to transfer the posts of lift operators in Municipal Common Service to LD Clerk/ Bill Collectors.
He said 35 more posts have been sanctioned for the Government polytechnic at Pukappuzha, Idukki. Twenty lecturer posts and 11 non-teaching staff posts have been sanctioned for the Attapady Government College which is scheduled to start its functioning this year itself. It has been decided to study the security features in Secretariat in the wake of fire at Maharashtra Secretariat. Inspection was done by electrical inspectors and the Electricity Minister has tabled a report. Other security inspections were carried out and the Chief Secretary has also tabled the report. Both the reports would be reviewed and necessary actions would be initiated.
The family of the police man who was stabbed to death while on duty at Paripally would be given Rs 10 lakh. Taking into consideration the excellent work rendered by him his family would receive his monthly salary and other benefits till his date of retirement. Another ASI who was hospitalized following the attack would be given Rs 3 lakh. His treatment expenses would be met by the Government. Family of Liji who was murdered by an unidentified man will be given Rs three lakh as compensation. The families of those four persons who died in a road accident at Venniyoor in Malappuram will be given Rs 3 lakh each.
