UDF's minority appeasement policy criticized

KOTTAYAM: Nair Service Society (NSS) General Secretary G Sukumaran Nair Thursday came down heavily on the state government move to give aided status to 35 schools in the Malabar area. Talking to reporters, he said the state government's policy of giving undue favor to a particular community and region would lead to the polarization of majority communities. NSS and the SNDP had been opposing the unilateral performance of the state education department. Now it had been decided to unite against the minority appeasement policy.

'We were not against minority rights, but we are only opposing the policy of surrendering before a particular section and showing undue favoritism, he said. 'Will it be possible for the government to give aided status to other unaided schools,' he asked. Instead of giving aided status to schools, government should take them over, he said.

Meanwhile, Yuva Morcha activists today staged a demonstration in protest against the controversial aided status issue.
They also burnt the effigy of the state education minister.
