Kunjananthan a tough nut to crack

Three days after the surrender of P K Kunjananthan, the mastermind behind the murder of T P Chandresekharan, the Special Investigation Team is still looking for more disclosures regarding the actual role of CPM leaders in the conspiracy to eliminate the RMP leader.

Sources with police maintained that CPM Panoor Area Committee Member Kunjananthan would be questioned in the coming days in the presence of Kirmani Manoj and Shafi, the goon leaders, for getting more information about the conspiracy.

As the link of CPM Kannur leadership with the murder has almost been established from the statements of the main accused, T K Rajeesh, Kodi Suni and Kirmani Manoj, the SIT requires only some concluding evidence which is likely to be obtained while interrogating Kunjananthan.

Police also found out that Rajeesh was contacted from Kunjananthan’s land phone number several times. However, sources added that Kunjananthan is not co-operating with the interrogation.

Meanwhile, police on Tuesday arrested two CPM workers for providing shelter to Kunjananthan. CPM Madayi Area Committee Office Secretary Naveen and Asokan, a party sympathiser, were arrested for providing shelter for Kunjananthan. Police added that the duo were arrested under section 212 (harbouring the offender) of Indian Penal Code. The arrested persons may be produced before the court on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, according to the sources, the special team has intensified search for Shinoj, the only absconding member of the gang which carried out the murder.
