Karnataka Minister resigns

BANGALORE: Karnataka Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Urban Development S Suresh Kumar resigned from his post Saturday in the wake of charges that he had secured a residential site violating rules.

“The Minister has submitted his resignation letter (to the Chief Minister) and also written to the Bangalore Development Authority, surrendering the site allotted to him”, sources close to him told reporters here.

Kumar decided to resign on moral grounds, they said.

Sadananda Gowda is yet to take a decision on Kumar’s resignation.

Kumar was allotted 4000 sq feet site by the Bangalore Development Authority by former Chief Minister B SYeddyurappa under the discretionary quota.

He faced charges that he secured the allotment through his kin, including his mother and daughter, who owned a house and two sites.

Kumar has confided with his confidants that he had disclosed these issues to the Lokayukta and that the site owned by his kin was not in the Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (Corporation) limits.

Kumar is perceived to be a man with a clean image in the political class in the state and respected even by his adversaries.
