Schools row: UDF to re-look proposal

The UDF will have a re-look at the proposal to convert 35 schools in Malappuram as opposing views have arisen in the issue, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said on Wednesday.

The matter was before the Finance Department, and once its decision comes, the UDF will approach the issue with an open mind, he told a post-Cabinet briefing here. The main decisions regarding the conversion were taken during the tenure of the LDF. It was during the V S Achuthanandan ministry’s term that the opinion of the Deputy Directors of Education were sought on the conversion.

Later, the then Education Minister M A Baby had noted in the file that the matter be examined and action taken, Chandy said.

‘’We have nothing to hide. What is there beyond what the minister (Baby) has written?’’ Chandy said.

Chandy also defended the Education Minister saying that he did not believe Abdu Rabb had done anything wrong. ENS
