Intense search underway for cop's murderers: Chandy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Tuesday told the State Assembly the police was investigating the murder of a police constable who was stabbed to death during patrolling at Paripally in Kollam early this morning.

The Chief Minister said this while replying to a submission made by opposition leader V S Achuthanandan over recent crimes, including the murder of the police constable, murder of a girl by an unidentified man who knocked her down with a motorbike and demolition of a house by land mafia in the city.

Alleging the government failed to control the law and order situation in the state, the opposition leader alleged the police failed to arrest the criminals involved in the three cases. The Chief Minister said the police got vital clues, including an abandoned vehicle in connection with the murder. The policemen, including an ASI, were attacked when they tried to intercept the vehicle in which the assailants were travelling. The vehicle was later recovered from Varakala in Kollam. 'Tomorrow's Cabinet will take a decision on giving compensation to the family of the police constable and the girl,' he added. Intense search was going on to arrest the criminals involved in all the three cases, he added.
