Students in a soup as Plus-I classes commence

The Plus One classes opening on Thursday will also open the gates to several woes. Only two allotments were conducted this year as against last year’s four (three allotments and one supplementary), with students being told to join the course after the second allotment, leaving little choice for better options.

The majority of the meritorious students have not secured admission to the first few options and subjects sought.

It is alleged that a major share of seats have been secured by CBSE students who secured high marks, as their Class X examinations are optional and internal allotments were open to them from the beginning. Last year they got admissions only in supplementary allotment. Besides, admission to the community and management quota will be held once school commences. Another issue is that some teachers have been assigned to ‘Save a Year’ examination paper valuation .

“There is likely to be confusion when schools reopen on Thursday. Students were asked to take admission after the second allotment. So far we have not received any information on the third allotment. Many students are unhappy with their allotment as they have got admission in schools far off from their homes and least sought options.

“Moreover, the admission to seats in the community quota and management quota will be held only once schools reopen. So far around 45 per cent of the merit seats have been filled and 12 to 15 per cent have been secured by CBSE students. The allotment to the management quota and community quota are yet to be made,” said Vinod T N, Ernakulam district president of Aided Higher Secondary Teachers Association. The Government Higher Secondary School Teachers Association members also said the same. The Director of Higher Secondary Education Mohammed Zaghir said that the majority of seats in the government and aided schools have been filled.

He said that supplementary allotments will be held on July 6, which will give the students an opportunity to change schools and subjects. He said, as per statistics on Wednesday evening, only 7,000 CBSE students secured admission to state schools, which is almost the same as last year.
