Cop killed during patrolling

KOLLAM: A policeman was stabbed to death by assailants during patrolling. The dead has been identified as Maniyan Pillai (47) of Kottara and driver of Paripally station. Assistant sub inspector Joy of Chenkalam, who received serious stab injuries, has been admitted in a hospital.


The incident happened early Tuesday morning. When the team was coming back from Velamanur after vehicle inspection, they found a maruti van under suspicious circumstances at Kulamada Junction. They stopped their vehicle and demanded the documents of the van and on suspicion, ASI Joy took them into custody. Joy was stabbed when he tried to make them enter the jeep. When the driver came running, he was also stabbed and the miscreants immediately fled the place in their van. They were taken to the hospital by the Paravoor police and by the time Maniyan Pillai succumbed to his injuries.
The van was later found abandoned in Varkala. Police have started investigation.
