KOTTAYAM: Health Minister K K Shailaja has given the order to probe the incident in Kottayam Medical on Wednesday wherein a patient died after he failed to get treatment on time. The minister has instructed the Medical Education director to probe the incident and give the report on the probe.
The allegation of the patent’s daughter is that the patient, Jacob Thomas (62), was brought to the hospital after he was diagnosed with H1N1 fever. And the hospital authorities sent him back without treating him, saying that there was no ventilator support available for the patient in the hospital at that time. Though the daughter, Reni, took him from there in the same ambulance to two private hospitals, there also ventilator facility was not available. She said her father was denied treatment in Karithas and Mata hospitals. The relatives of the patient said they would initiate legal action against the two private hospitals.
Meanwhile, Kottayam Medical College authorities complained that the hospital PRO was assaulted by the patient’s relatives.
Ettumanoor police have reached the spot and recorded the statement of Reni.
