THRISSUR: Thrissur DMO came with an explanation on the youth undergoing treatment in Kochi on suspicion of the presence of Nipah virus. The source of the disease is not Thrissur, the DMO told reporters here. The youth stayed in Thrissur for four days along with 22 persons. The details of them have been collected and examined. The symptoms of the virus have not been found on anybody. There is no need to panic, the DMO said.
The youth had fever while coming from Thodupuzha. He is likely to have infected with the virus from there. The 22 who stayed with him don’t have fever. As part of precautionary measures, six are under observation. However, the presence of nipah virus was not seen on them, she said.
Isolation wards have been opened in Kochi, Kalamassery, Kozhikode and Thrissur medical colleges. An emergency meet of the health department was convened in Thrissur based on the report of the youth staying here. The medicine brought from Australia is at the national virology institute.
