North-east monsoon vigorous over Kerala
Sunday, January 1, 2012: North-east monsoon has been vigorous over Kerala. Rain occurred at a few places in Kerala and at isolated places in Lakshadweep.
The chief amounts of rainfall reports in cm are – Kayamkulam (Alappuzha district) 6, Kanjirappally (Kottayam district) & Mancompu (Alappuzha district)5 each, Minicoy (Lakshadweep) & Mavelikkara (Alappuzha district) 4 each and Haripad (Alappuzha district), Kumarakom (Kottayam district) & Varkala (Thiruvananthapuram district) 3 each. Another 10 stations reported rainfall of 1 cm to 2 cm.
Alappuzha, CIAL Kochi & Kottayam recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 210C
Strong winds from southeasterly direction speed occasionally reaching 45-55 kmph is likely along and off Kerala coast and over Lakshadweep area during next 24 hours.
