THIRUVANANTHAURAM: The cabinet on Thursday decided to appoint Transport Commissioner and Director of Fire and Rescue, K.S. Balasubramaniam, as the next DGP of Law and Order in Kerala in place of Jacob Punnoose, who is to retire on August 31. Balasubramaniam’s service will end on May 2015.A native of Chennai, Balasubramaniam is a member of 1978 IPS Batch. He entered into service as SP at Munnar and Shornur.He was also SP of Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha. He had served as Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner, Special Branch DIG and Vigilance AG. He also worked at RPF.
He was selected at the panel meeting attended by Chief Secretary K. Jayakumar, principal secretary of home department Sajan Peter and DGP Jacob Punnoose.
Jail ADGP Alexander Jacob will be promoted as DGP. The cabinet also decided to appoint DGP and Police Academy Director K.G. Prem Shankar as the commission which submits recommendations for separating law and order, and investigation
