Poaching: Two held

KALPETTA: The police arrested Annan, 49, of Poolakkolly at Venniyode and Vasu, 45, of Kavumuttom at Karakkamala in Wayanad on Sunday at Anappalam Junction here while they were allegedly transporting a 12-kg porcupine carcass. The animal was reportedly poached from a private plantation near here.

The police seized a country-made gun and their motorcycle. They were booked under section 25(1) (A) (illegal possession of weapons and use) of the Arms Act 1957 and the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, K.K. Abdulsherief, sub-inspector, Kalpetta, said. The accused would be produced before the First Class Judicial Magistrate Court here.
