Patient dies after blood transfusion

KOZHIKODE: A woman died after blood was transfused to the wrong patient at the Kozikode Medical College Hospital. She has been identified as Thankam (61) of Kuttiyil Thazham. She was admitted in the hospital three days before for stomach ache.

The blood which was supposed to transfuse to the body of Thankamma was mistakenly transfused to Thankam, lying next to the former. Thankam’s relatives were not aware of the transfusion. She died late in the night.

Initial investigation said the lapses from the side of the nurse led to the death of the patient.  DYFI activists besieged the hospital following the death of the patient and sought action against the guilty.
