Anti-NSS article: Action will be taken soon, says Kunhalikkutty

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) on Monday virtually denounced a write-up carried by the party's official organ pillorying the Nair Service Society (NSS) general secretary for the ongoing tiff the community outfit has with the ruling coalition.

IUML leader and state Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty said League was not aware of the write-up published by League's official daily 'Chandrika'. He said he do not think that any employee or League member would write such an article.

“Since the daily is responsible for the article, an explanation has been sought from them. Action would be taken against those who were behind the article,” he said.

Kuhnalikkutty said the article was penned by person outside the daily. Such a write-up should not have been published by 'Chandrika'. It was penned by a columnist and it did not reflect the party's opinion.

The daily, in a weekly column on Sunday, carried the piece attacking the NSS stand over recent political issues and it singled out for attack its general secretary G Sukumaran Nair.

After running down Nair, who has been accusing the Oommen Chandy government of following a policy of communal appeasement, the article said the NSS leader was trying to carry out "the RSS agenda" by creating communal divisions.

With the write-up sparking strong reactions from several quarters including the NSS, League leaders had distanced from it yesterday itself stating that the views reflected in the piece were solely of the columnist.
