KOCHI: A decision on contesting the assembly polls will be taken later, said opposition leader V S Achuthanandan. He said this when the media asked him whether he would contest the polls. When the question was repeated, he just walked on without replying.
The central leadership had entrusted the state leadership to decide on the candidatures of VS and CPM politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan. This decision was taken after holding talks with the politburo members of Kerala. The state secretariat to be convened on Tuesday will discuss this issue and the state panel meet to be followed later will also discuss the same issue. Party general secretary Sitaram Yechury will attend the secretariat meet.
In the present situation, majority of the politburo members want both to contest the polls. Though some from the state leadership opined that VS should be kept away citing his age, the central leadership have disagreed it.
