Mohammed Panel defers decision on entrance exam

KOCHI: Failing to discharge its duties properly, the Admission Supervisory Committee headed by Justice P A Mohammed which met here on Tuesday postponed the decision on supervising the entrance examinations to be conducted by the college managements on Thursday. With just one more day to go, it has become clear that the examination will run into rough weather.

It is learnt that the committee has dragged the issue to the court. The college managements informed the committee about the examinations only on Tuesday. Earlier, a Division Bench of the Kerala High Court had criticised the committee for moving the court without discharging its duties properly. It was when the committee approached the court challenging the verdict by a Single Bench which allowed the self-financing college managements to charge more than the fees fixed by the former that the committee earned the wrath of the Division Bench. The court had asked the committee why it was relying on it to exercise its statutory powers.
According to an order of the Supreme Court, the selffinancing colleges have to conduct the entrance examinations for the current academic year by July 14. But the examinations will have to be conducted under the supervision of the Admissions Supervisory Committee.
