Saturday, July 30, 2011: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today informed that IG Tomin J Thachankary was reinstated into service as per the instructions of the Central government.
Speaking to the reporters here on Saturday, Chandy added that the Centre had send an intimation to the state government asking for Thachankary’s reinstatement.
Thachankary was placed under suspension for violating service rules by going abroad without consent from the previous government. The government had decided to reinstate Thachankary since his suspension term had expired and the NIA had given a clean chit to him.
Thachankary ran into trouble after the Indian Ambassador in Qatar complained of the foreign trip made by him. The Ambassador gave a formal complaint to the union Home ministry accusing Thachankary of having talks with terror groups while staying in Qatar.
