Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram flights within a month: Bharat Bhushan

Kozhikode: Civil Aviation director general and secretary EK Bharat Bhushan said that the Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram flight services from Kozhikode would begin within a month. He was speaking to representatives of Calicut Airport committee and Malabar Chamber of Commence along with Airport Authority of India chairman VP Agarwal at the Kozhikode airport.

Bharat Bhushan said chief minister Oomen Chandy and M K Raghavan MP wanted to start flight services to Chennai and Thiruvananathpuram. Talks are on with some private flight companies too. Air India won't be able to start services as of now. He said the baggage of travelers is handled by Air India in Kozhikode airport. To cut delay it has been decided that private company would be entrusted with the job. That would be done without posing a threat to anyone's job. The State government has been asked to appoint more policemen to cut short the delay in emigration.



Development works at Calicut International Airport would be completed soon, top Civil Aviation Officials today assured Malabar Chamber of Commerce (MCC) and Calicut Airport Committee (CAC).

The development works included installation of Instrument Landing System and sophisticated radars among others, facilitating smooth landing and take off in inclement weather, it said.

The delegation also submitted a memorandum listing their demands relating to development of the airport, it said.

CAC President P V Chandran, Former MCC President P V Gangadharan and MCC President Anup Narayanan were among the delegation, the release added.

Several flights, including those from international destinations, were diverted to nearby airports from Calicut due to poor visibility triggered by bad weather in the recent past.
