No evidence against top cops in Sampath case: CBI

Tuesday, July 26, 2011: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today stated that there were no evidences against higher police officers IG Muhammed Yasin and SP Vijay Sakhare in the custodial death of Sampath, the prime accused in Puthur Sheela murder case.
CBI informed this at the Ernakulam principal sessions Court while hearing on the plea filed by Murukesh, brother of Sampath, seeking explanation for the delay in arresting the top police officials involved in the case. The plea was filed in the Court challenging the CBI direction for not arresting ADGP Mohammed Yasin and DIG Vijay Sakhare.
CBI said that there was no circumstantial evidence which proves that Muhammed Yasin was not present at the spot where Sampath was brutally tortured. Sampath had died in police custody on March 29, 2010.
