Thursday, July 28, 2011: Amid ongoing litigation over control of Kerala’s famous Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Thursday said that he was not in favour of the state taking over the shrine or any other place of worship.
‘I will never agree with the idea or demand that the state should take control of a temple or any other places of worship,’ Chandy said. He was reacting to a query about the state government’s position on the issue of ownership of the temple.
The statement comes after the Kerala High Court ordered the state to take over control of the temple, its assets and management by constituting a body corporate or trust or any other authority on the lines of the Guruvayur Devaswom.
