Friday, July 29, 2011: Kerala Assembly Speaker G Karthikeyan on Friday said that he is against a public discussion over the allegation of malpractice during voting on the Appropriation (Vote on Account) Bill in the Assembly on July 20.
It is not right for me as a Speaker to discuss such things outside the Assembly, he said.
Leader of the opposition VS Achuthanandan had said that the government had avoided defeat in the house (and ensured its survival) by “undemocratic” means.
Speaking about Achuthanandan’s comment at Nedumbassery, near here, Karthikeyan said that the leader of the opposition had the right to air his views on it. However, he did not answer to the question whether the video footage of the assembly proceedings of the day will be examined.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had said that the government took the issue seriously and was prepared to examine the video tapes of the proceedings.
