Sampath death case: Court seeks explanation from CBI

Tuesday, July 19, 2011: The Ernakulam principal sessions Court today sought an explanation from CBI over the delay in arresting the higher police officials involved in the custodial death of Sampath, the prime accused in Puthur Sheela murder case in Palakkad.

The Court has issued a directive for serving a notice to the CBIregarding the same. Sampath’s brother Murukesh had filed a petition in the Court seeking an explanation for not arresting the top police officials involved in the case.
The plea was filed challenging the CBI direction for not arresting ADGP Mohammed Yasin and DIG Vijay Sakhare. The Police had recently arrested Johnson Lobo, a police constable in connection with the case.
Sampath had died in police custody on March 29, 2010.
