Widespread protest against the attack on Journalists,Sajan Prasad resigned

Thursday, July 14, 2011: The Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) on Thursday condemned the attack on three scribes including the Asianet News reporter and cameraman by a group of persons at the LMS compund of the CSI Church in Palayam in two separate incidents on Thursday.
Reporter Sarath Krishnan and cameraman Ayyappan were attacked when they reached LMS compound to cover a group of protestors who were there to meet the Bishop and hand over a complaint regarding irregularities in admissions made to the Karakkonam medical college.
The offenders snatched the camera destroyed it and took away the DV cassette. As a protest against this incident several journalists under the KUWJ took out a march to the LMS compound which turned violent after they clashed with the police.
The police resorted to minor lathicharge in which Indiavision channel bureau chief, Marshal V Sebastian sustain injuries to his head. Special branch ASI Rasaliyan and John from AR camp were suspended.
Several political leaders including Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan, deputy leader of OppositionKodiyeri Balakrishnan, BJP state president V Muraleedharan and V Sivankutty termed the attack “unfortunate” and “highly condemnable” and asked the authorities concerned to take action against the offenders.
