Finance bill: Cong slaps notice on VS Achuthanandan

Tuesday, August 2, 2011: Congress has today served a breach of privilege notice against Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan for his statements against the voting for the finance appropriation bill.
The notice has been moved by the Congress parliamentary party secretary Benny Behannan- MLA to Speaker G Karthikeyan.
The notice has been served against Achuthanandan for his sarcastic remarks made against the ruling party MLAs who were not present when the Speaker called for ‘vote-on-account’ for enactment of finance bill.

The ruling collation, which has 73 members including Anglo Indian nominee in the House, had only 68 members in the House when the Finance Bill was put to vote.
Even though the Bill was passed amidst pandemonium, Opposition LDF cried foul alleging that the ruling coalition did not have the majority to pass the Bill.
