Notorious criminal arrested in Aluva


ALUVA: The Aluva police on Wednesday took into custody Amjath, 37, of Kadavilan, Edathala in connection with several cases pending against him. He was charged in at least 17 cases which included abducting the scriptwriter and director Roopesh Paul and stealing Rs 30 lakh, stealing a Benz car from Tripunithura, robbery of gold ornaments near SP office etc.


He was also charged for hawala case and violation of Arms Act. Warrants were pending against him for some cases.Acting on the instruction of SP Harshita Attaluri, Aluva CI K B Prafulla Chandran and SI Nishad Ibrahim nabbed Amjath near Cochin Bank Junction here.
He was reportedly having unholy nexus with some of the top police officers who allegedly protected him from being booked by the police. The accused reportedly abused the mediapersons who tried to take his photograph with the permission of Aluva DySP Salim at the Aluva police station where he was detained. The accused will be produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate on Thursday.
