47-day trawling ban in Kerala from Thursday midnight

Wednesday, June 13, 2012: The 47- day trawling ban will come into effect from the midnight of June 14 onwards. The ban of trawling will be applicable for mechanized trawlers fishing in state’s waters up to 22 km from the shoreline.
The ban will be in force till the midnight of July 31. Fishing by smaller boats, including traditional boats, will be allowed during the period but they have been told not to engage in trawling or pair trawling using two traditional boats.
The fish is expected to become costlier once the trawlers stop venturing out into the sea.
