Congress targeting me: Mani

Claiming that the police had foisted cases against him at the instance of the Congress, CPM Idukki district secretary M M Mani said on Sunday that he is undecided about appearing before the police on Wednesday in connection with his controversial speeches.

A decision in this regard would be taken only after taking legal advice, Mani told reporters after the district secretariat meeting here.

The party would deal with the issue politically and legally. The Congress was involved in his character assassination by levelling charges against him, he said.

Stating that the cases lodged against him were politically motivated, Mani accused Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan for directing the police to act tough against him.

Mani said that the party is planning to take out a rally to the DySP office in Thodupuzha on June 12 protesting against the cases.

Mani denied saying anything against V S Achuthanandan and added that he has only respect for the Opposition Leader. He said that it was all the creation of the media.

On CPI state secretary Pannyan Ravindran flaying him, Mani said he was surprised as there was no tiff between them.

But, he said that CPI leader Benoy Viswam and K P Rajendran were not in league with him and the reason for it was not known.

Blaming Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for the death of innocents in his state, Mani said Modi had no right to speak against him.
