DGP’s report says 533 cops in state have criminal records


Tuesday, June 5, 2012: According to Home Ministry reports, 533 policemen in the state have criminal cases slapped against them. This was revealed in the DGP report submitted to the High Court on Tuesday.
The list submitted by the DGP also included names of IG Tomin Thachankarry and DIG S Sreejith among other higher officials.
36 policemen in the state have underwent a CBI investigation. 26 have been accused in Vigilance cases and 7 in Forest, Excise cases, the DGP report informed the HC.
Thiruvananthapuram tops in most number of cops booked under criminal cases. The High Court Division Bench, including Justices Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and C T Ravikumar, had made it clear last month that those accused in criminal cases are not needed in the police force.
