Experts to do feasibility study on media city

An expert committee will be constituted soon to conduct a detailed study on the feasibility of a media city in Kochi, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said. He was inaugurating the Media Centre of the Information and Public Relations Department here on Sunday.

Chandy said the government has plans to extend such venture to other districts also. The media centre at Civil Station was modelled after the Media Chamber in Thiruvananthapuram. This would be used for holding press  conferences of various government departments. The Media Centre, built at an expense of `5 lakh, has the facility to accommodate 30 people. This is the second media centre in the state, the first being the Thiruvananthapuram Media Chamber.

Govt TV Channel

Information Minister K C Joseph, who later spoke to reporters, said that measures have been initiated to start a new television channel for the government. “If all goes well, we could start the new channel this financial year itself,” he said.

Steps are being taken to create awareness through panchayats about various welfare schemes of the government, the Minister said.  “Though there are plenty of various welfare schemes, they were not reaching the layman for want of awareness. Panchayats will be vested with the responsibility to create awareness among masses,” minister said.

Joseph distributed the certificates for the students of Kerala Press Academy who worked in the Piravom bypoll media cell.

District panchayat president Eldhose Kunnappilly, Benny Behanan MLA, Anwar Sadat MLA, District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth and  Thrikkakara municipal chairman P I Muhammad Ali were present.
