Kerala, Lakshadweep get widespread rains


Wednesday, June 6, 2012: With the south west monsoon hitting Kerala coast, widespread rainfall occurred at most places in the state and Lakshadweep with the weathermen today forecasting more rains in the next two days.
The highest rainfall of seven cm each was reported in Kannur, Hosdurg and Thaliparamba in the 24 hours that ended at 8.30 am today.
According to the Met station here, Kudulu and Vadakara recorded six cm each, Thalassery five cm, Irikkur and Vaithri four each. Rain or thundershowers would occur at most places in Kerala and Lakshadweep till June 8 and heavy rainfall at isolated places in Kerala and Lakshadweep in the next 48 hours.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph could occur off the Kerala coast and over Lakshadweep in the next 24 hours.
