KOCHI: The crime branch team probing the death of violinist Balabhaskar will register the statement of Prakash Thampy, accused in the gold smuggling case. The team will be probing his involvement in the accident. Thampy had some financial dealings with the violinist. The team is planning to question Thampy, who is in remand, after getting him into custody and will soon approach the court for it.
The crime branch decided to remove the mystery behind the accident after Prakash Thampy, who was the co-ordinator of Balabhaskar’s music programmes and Vishnu, friend of the violinist, were arraigned in the gold smuggling case. The team will question Arjun and the witnesses in the accident again. The crime branch collected the details of the accused from the DRI probing the gold smuggling case.
Though Thampy has been arrested, Vishnu is still absconding. The probe was handed over to the crime branch following the complaint of the violinist’s father C K Unni on suspicion of financial dealings behind his son’s death. Thampy was the organiser of the violinist’s music programmes. He came close with the violinist when the former was running a canteen in a private hospital in the capital city. Vishnu was Balabhaskar’s college mate and it was he who appointed Arjun as the driver for the violinist’s trip.
It is hinted that Vishnu was handling the financial dealings of Balabhaskar. DRI handed over the proofs of Vishnu’s foreign trips to the crime branch. It was after Balabhaskar’s death, Thampy started going abroad. Thampy and Vishnu were frequent visitors of Balabhaskar and after his death they never visited us, said his father. They never contacted us via phone also. They were aware of his financial transactions than relatives.
