Seventh person under observation tests negative for Nipah virus

KOCHI: It is confirmed now that the seventh person who had been admitted to the Isolation ward after he showed symptoms of Nipah is not infected by the virus. Confirming this, the health department informed that the result of one more suspected patient is pending.

The Virology institute in Alappuzha had confirmed yesterday that six persons under observation were not infected by Nipah virus.

A Medical bulletin today said that the health condition of the youth who had been under treatment for Nipah had improved. Health Minister K K Shailaja informed that 355 persons were under observation in the State and it has not been concluded that bat is the source of the virus.

Meanwhile, two persons with fever are under observation in Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. The health department has given special instruction to isolate and observe carefully patients coming from Ernakulam, Idukki and Thrissur and seeking treatment for fever or brain fever.
