Government not told of Engineering entrance

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb has said that the engineering college managements have not informed the State Government formally about their plans to hold an entrance examination for management quota seats.

He told reporters here on Friday that the managements, during the discussions held with the government for finalising the agreement for quota and fees, had informed that a large number of seats would remain vacant even after filling the seats from the rank-list published by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE). The managements had also told the meeting that they would have to conduct a separate entrance test for filling those seats.  However, they did not intimate the government about the conduct of the entrance test, he said. 

TEACHER-STUDENT RATIO 
Abdu Rabb said that around 7,000 of the 15,503 teachers included in the teachers’ bank would be redeployed once 1:30 teacher-student ratio is introduced in schools. 

FESTIVAL ALLOWANCE 
The festival allowance for Onam for preraks and assistant preraks of Kerala Literacy Mission Authority has been hiked from Rs 300 to Rs 500.  This would mean that the preraks of continuing education centres would get Rs 1,600, including Rs 500 as festival allowance and Rs 1,100 as special allowance during Onam.The assistant preraks of continuing education centres would get Rs 1,400, including Rs 500 as festival allowance and Rs 900 as special allowance.The preraks of development education centres would get Rs 2,100, including ` 500 as festival allowance and Rs 1,600 as special allowance.The assistant preraks of development education centres would get Rs 1,600, including Rs 500 as festival allowance and Rs 1,100 as special allowance.

EDUCATION PACKAGE
  He said that the rehabilitation package for teachers would be revised soon. The managements had earlier raised apprehensions about the teachers’ bank proposed in the package. However, the government had convinced them that the teachers’ bank was not against their interest. 

AWARDS
 He also announced the PTA awards for 2010-11, vocational higher secondary school teachers awards for 2010-11 and state teachers awards for 2011-12. TTI, Manacuad, here, has bagged the first prize for primary section comprising C H Mohammed Koya Ever-rolling Trophy and Rs 2.5 lakh.  The same award for secondary section was bagged by St Mary’s  HSS, Vellaramkunnu, Idukki.The second, third, fourth and fifth prize for primary section were bagged by BEMUPS, Puthiyara, Kozhikode; Government UPS, Varambatta, Wayanad; GMLPS, Perinthalmanna, Malappuram and Government SNDP UPS, Pattathanam respectively.The second, third, fourth and fifth prize for secondary section were bagged by GHSS, Udinoor, Kasargod; St Gorrati HSS, Kollam; Government GHSS, Vellanad, Thiruvananthapuram and St Thomas HSS, Kozhencherry, Pathanamthitta.
