KSRTC will be retained in public sector: Minister


Thursday, September 22, 2011: Kerala Transport Minister V S Sivakumar said Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) would be retained in the public sector.
Speaking at the KSRTC Employees Association (CITU) 38th State Conference here, he said that both the government and the employees should think how the company could be made a profitable.
United Democratic Front (UDF) government had taken several relief measures and as a result of that the monthly loss has come down to Rs 30 crore from Rs 40 crore, he said. The government had given Rs 120 crore help to the company, he said. With the help of the Centre efforts will be made to make the company profitable, he said.
He said about Rs 5.50 crore loss had been suffered by KSRTC as a result ofthe two hartals-one at Thiruvananthapuram district and an all-Kerala hartal. In the Thiruvananthapuram hartal about 20 KSRTC buses were damaged by activists of tthe hartal, he said, adding, that trade unions should have a new approach.
In a democracy people has the right to protest, but it should not be by destroying public properties, he said. CITU National President A K Padmanabhan, inaugurated the three-day conference.
