Vigilance Court Judge withdraws from Palmolein case

Saturday, September 24, 2011: PK Haneefa, the Vigilance Court judge hearing the palmolein case, withdrew from the case on Saturday. PK Haneefa requested the Kerala High court to relieve him from hearing the case due to allegations being raised against him.
A re-probe in the palmolein case was given taking into account all legal formalities. But some fronts had personally attacked him and raised allegations against him in the media. Hence it is not possible for him to conduct the hearings and wanted to be withdrawn from hearing the case.
The court was supposed to hear the case on November 10 but was advanced to Saturday unexpectedly. The court even had issued notices to all accused to present them in the court. All lawyers representing the accused were telephoned and intimated about this.
The government Chief Whip PC George had filed a complaint against P.K Haneefa for ordering a further probe into the Palmolein case. George has forwarded a copy of the complaint to Supreme Court chief justice SH Kapadia, Kerala HC justice J Chelameswar, HC judge justice Payas C Kuriakose who is in-charge of Thiruvananthapuram district saying that the probe was ordered without following the usual procedures.
