January 02, 2012: Kerala today filed a complaint against the technical experts C D Thatte and D K Mehta, for a “unilateral” approach adopted by the technical team during their visit to Mullaperiyar dam.The decision was taken following a legal opinion given by Harish Salve. Salve was of the view that the correct course of action would be to file a petition before the Committee on the issue rather than directly approaching the Supreme Court.
The petition will explain how Thatte and Mehta, during their visit to the dam acted against the directions of the court.
The State government also submitted before the panel that the two expert committee members had ill-treated its water resources department officials.
The State government officials boycotted the inspection by the panel alleging that the panel was not hearing their grievances. Instead they sided with the PWD officials from Tamil Nadu, the State government alleged.
