TNSTC bus services to Idukki resume
January 02, 2012: TNSTC bus services to Idukki that remained suspended owing to stray incidents of violence on either side owing to the Mullaperiyar dam issue resumed after a gap of almost 26 days.
The bus services were partially stopped as a result of the ongoing commotion in connection with the Mullaperiyar dam issue which has seen Kerala and Tamil Nadu at loggerheads.
Finny Verghese, sub-inspector in Kumily, which is the main route through which a large number of vehicles move, said that the buses from Tamil Nadu abstained from conducting services and Kerala vehicles also kept off the border road.
However, he said that a large number of vehicles carrying Sabarimala pilgrims have been crossing the check post. Vehicles carrying Sabarimala pilgrims from other States also pass through the check posts. He said that efforts were on to restore bus services from Kerala to Tamil Nadu from today.
