Kerala HC wants faster trial in Sharjah sex case

The Kerala High Court on Friday asked the trial court to speed up the trial in the Sharjah sex racket case. Justice M Sashidharan Nambiar passed the order while considering the bail application of an accused in the case. The court, however, dismissed the bail plea of Ahmed Chalakkara of Kasargod.
Appearing for the state, Additional Director General of Prosecutions Tom Jose Padinjarekkara opposed the bail application and argued that if bail was granted, the accused would try to influence the witnesses in the case.
The details of the racket came to light when Sheeja Azis who managed to escape from the clutches of the racket in the UAE approached the court for an impartial inquiry in a complaint filed by her.
The Pathanamthitta police had registered a case on the basis of Sheeja’s complaint in August, 2007.
The prime accused in the case is Sauda, who is allegedly running brothels in Sharjah and Dubai where around 300 women are said to be detained for flesh trade.Sauda had surrendered before the police in June last year.
