Chandy asks MPs to exert pressure on Centre

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Monday asked Members of Parliament (MPs) from Kerala to exert pressure on Centre to review the stand of banks on providing educational loans to those who seek admissions in government quota alone.

Speaking at a meeting of MPs convened prior to the Monsoon Session of Parliament, he said all possible steps should be taken to release the Indians captured by Somali pirates. If necessary the possibility of releasing those pirates in jails should be thought of, he said. The MPs should collectively exert pressure to restore the kerosene quota to fishermen, he said. He asked MPs to exert pressure to change the stand taken by Air India in changing their HQ from Kochi.
